Goblin VS Dwarf pt. 1

Introduction

Goblin vs Dwarf Pt. 1 was a collaborative short made together with my good friend, Noah Fog. The project was developed as a character animation exercise, inspired by the charm and tactile feel of traditional stop-motion. Our goal was to bring two contrasting fantasy characters to life while capturing that handcrafted, frame-by-frame look within a 3D pipeline.

Contribution

I was responsible for the dwarf character and the complete sound design, while Noah handled the goblin and environment setup. My focus was on creating expressive, weighty movement in the dwarf’s actions and crafting audio that enhanced the playful and rhythmic energy of the scene.

Production

The character models were sourced from HeroForge and sponsored by 3D College Denmark. From there, we cleaned up the meshes, rigged them for animation, and worked on translating the physical stiffness and timing of stop-motion into digital motion. Achieving the right balance between stylization and believability was a major focus throughout production.

Reflection

Working on Goblin vs Dwarf Pt. 1 was a fun deep dive into stylized animation and an exciting collaboration that mixed creativity with experiment. We learned a lot about how subtle imperfections — slight timing offsets, asymmetric poses, and textured lighting — can make digital animation feel almost tangible. The result captures exactly the playful, stop-motion-inspired style we envisioned.
