Introduction
Viking Ship Animation was a two-week collaborative project I created together with Noah Fog. The goal was to produce a short intro for a fictional 3D animation studio — a cinematic piece that combined atmosphere, motion, and tone to quickly establish an identity. The project became an exciting opportunity to blend stylized visuals with technical challenges in fluid simulation and lighting.
Contribution
I was responsible for setting up the base scene, building the camera composition, and developing the ocean system with foam to simulate natural wave movement. I also rigged and animated the boat so it interacted believably with the water’s surface. Other tasks included creating the thunder and lightning sequence, blocking out the logo animation, designing the underwater environment, and handling the full sound design.
Collaboration
Noah handled all the compositing work and contributed heavily to refining the base scene. He added essential polish to the underwater particles, enhanced the logo animation, and helped unify the final visual tone. The collaboration allowed us to combine strengths and create a seamless final composition within a short production window.
Reflection
This project was a great reminder of how much can be achieved through focused teamwork and experimentation. From motion synchronization between the ocean and ship to balancing sound and visuals, Viking Ship Animation strengthened both our technical and creative processes. I’m proud of how cohesive and cinematic the final piece turned out — a project that truly captures the spirit of collaboration and discovery in 3D animation.
