About the demo

The demo shows a digital learning concept in the form of an interactive 3D model of the area around Rådhuspladsen in Copenhagen. You choose a highlighted building and see its data, such as address, building type, floors and opening hours, together with learning goals such as "Map local data" and "Understand the building's function". In the finished concept, a course of lessons about the building starts from here. The course is not part of the demo.

My role

The code was made with Claude Code, which I directed, and the design and logic are mine. I decided which data the city should be built from, how it should look and what happens when you choose a building. I chose the nine well-known buildings, including Copenhagen City Hall, Palace Hotel and the National Museum, that were given year of construction, architect and historical status, and refined the model when buildings, roads or the City Hall tower looked wrong.

Technology

The demo runs in the browser with Three.js (WebGL). The city data is two extracts from OpenStreetMap, last updated in September 2026, which are stored on the site. The buildings are raised from their outlines and their height or number of floors, and roads, squares, parks, water, trees and fountains come from the same extract. The City Hall tower with its clock faces is built separately in the code. The demo downloads about 0.7 MB. You rotate the camera by dragging and zoom with the mouse wheel or with two fingers. A click or tap on a highlighted building moves the camera there and opens its data. The demo can also be used with the keyboard and is shown in Danish or English.
